Frequently asked questions

Is Tichu Master free?

Yes — completely. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no “remove ads” tier because there’s nothing to remove. If you enjoy the app, the kindest thing you can do is leave a review on the App Store or send it to the friends you usually play with.

Do I need an account?

No. AI matches work entirely without an account. If you want to play online, the app silently generates an anonymous, device-bound identifier and lets you pick a display name — that’s your “account”. No email, no password, no sign-up form.

Does it work offline?

Yes. AI matches, statistics, game history, the rules screen, and language switching all work with zero network connection. Online play (private rooms and Quick Match) is the only feature that needs the internet.

Why does the AI sometimes seem to know my hand?

It doesn’t. The Hard AI has access to exactly the same information as you: every card that has been played, every Tichu/Grand Tichu call, every wish, and the Mahjong’s holder. It’s a strong card-counter and a careful Bayesian about what your hand could contain.

If a specific situation feels wrong, please email a screenshot — bots can have bugs too.

How do I play with my friends online?

Open Play → Online → Create room. The app shows a 6-character code (e.g.ABC123). Your friends pick Online → Join room and enter the code. Once four players are seated, the host can start the round.

A quick-match mode for playing with three random opponents from around the world is on the way.

Why did my ELO change by so much (or so little)?

Tichu Master uses a partnership-aware ELO with a few specifics: a double-victory (both opponents wiped out before reaching 100 points) is worth more than a marginal win, called Tichus and Grand Tichus increase the swing if successful (and decrease it if defended), and your gains/losses are capped per day to protect your rating from a single bad evening.

Where is my game history?

Open Stats → Game history. Tap a row to see the full round-by-round score sheet, including every Tichu/Grand Tichu call and bomb. The history lives only on the device that played the game — we don’t sync it.

Can I change my display name?

Yes — open Settings → Display name. The change applies to future games. Past scoreboards keep the name you used at the time, both on your device and on any opponents’.

Is there a Bärndütsch / Swiss-German version?

Yes. Tichu Master ships with full English and Bärndütsch (Bernese German) interfaces. Switch in Settings → Language. We’re happy to add more dialects/languages — if you’d like to help translate, email us!

How do I delete my data?

The fastest way is to uninstall the app — that wipes all on-device data.

To remove your online-play records too (display name, anonymous ID, ELO history), email support@tichu-master.com with your 6-character handle code (e.g. ABC123) and the words “delete my account”. We’ll confirm and erase within 30 days.

The app crashed / something looks wrong. What now?

See the “Reporting bugs” section above for what to include — it speeds up a fix enormously.

Will there be tournaments / club mode / spectating?

We hope so — they’re on the long-term roadmap. The first priority is a rock-solid one-table experience and ranked Quick Match. After that: friend lists, club rooms, tournament brackets, and spectator mode are all on the table.

Still stuck?

We answer every email personally — even the “this is more of a feature request, but…” ones. Reach us at support@tichu-master.com. While you’re here, the how-to-play page covers the game itself, and our privacy policyexplains exactly what we do (and don’t) store about you.
